1944: The year The US became involved in the European theater of war. Back home, folks were going to the movie theater to bolster spirits. Some movies looked directly in the face of war, while others helped people escape for just a couple of hours. Going My Way with Bing Crosby was the top grossing movie of the year, but it was followed closely by a movie marking the first time teaming of director Vincente Minnelli and MGM leading lady, Judy Garland, (who would be married the following year). Meet Me In St. Louis gave Judy two of her signature songs, and in today's FIF, The Boston Pops plays one of them.
